Break the Recession - Exercise your mommy power
Detroit, MI --
May 3, 2010 --
Tired of the recession? Tired of poor performing schools. Exercise your mommy power.
As mommies we are responsible for preparing our children for the 21st century workforce as we raise them from birth to adulthood. Their employment and the economy are dependent upon us.
Schools across America are the vehicle for preparing them for that workforce, except schools are stuck in 20th century. Now that schools are in a state of quandry due to eroding finances, it is a perfect time to force a change of mindset.
Demand that schools prepare eighty (80%) percent of students for college as today’s jobs require a college degree, whether it is an associates, bachelors or masters degree.
Demand that schools equip your student with literacy in business technology software – Microsoft Office/ Open Office, Adobe Creative Suite and/ or Network Engineering - Programming.
With technological skills and a college degree, students would be ready those 21st century jobs. Otherwise,, our students are doomed for unemployment, underemployment and lifelong recession. Exercise your mommy power. Create schools that prepare our students for the 21st century.
Ida Byrd-Hill was highlighted in the Essence Magazine article, Helping Our Children Achieve Children, for her 9 years of advocacy to improve education. As a mother of twins, Kevin and Karen Hill, she harnessed her mommy power to improve the schools her children attended and hence the improvement of her community. Imagine the impact of our economy if every mother exercised our mommy power, like Ida. Companies would relocate to our cities and employ our students at high income levels. Our students would spend their income locally and then local economies would grow and expand.
