For the past 25 years, urban students have been ill prepared for the Jetson Age causing high urban unemployment today as jobs require a technology orientation.
The sad irony the 2009 Lemelson-MIT Invention Index found an overwhelming majority of teens surveyed (85 percent) expressed interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, with “curiosity about the way things work” as the driving factor for their interest (44 percent.).
Roughly two-thirds of African-American teens (64 percent) and teen girls (67 percent) believe they are not being prepared well in school for these careers.

Send MORE urban students to college.
College and career preparation exposes individuals to opportunities generating heightened expectations. Heightened expectations increase community demands for college preparatory schools for all students and not just the talented tenth.
